A yellow weather warning has been issued by the Met Office for Oxfordshire this weekend as Storm Amy approaches.

The weather agency has issued the alert for "strong" wind from midnight on Friday, October 3 into Saturday until 7pm that day.

West to south westerly winds will strengthen and become "rather gusty" on Saturday, with gusts of 45-55 mph possible in places.

Wind is expected to ease gradually later in the day on Saturday.

A Met Office spokesman said: "Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary.

"People cope better with power cuts when they have prepared for them in advance.

"It’s easy to do. Consider gathering torches and batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items.

"Be prepared for weather warnings to change quickly: when a weather warning is issued, the Met Office recommends staying up to date with the weather forecast in your area."

Organisers of DogFest, due to take place at Blenheim Palace throughout the weekend, have sent text messages to those who booked to go saying the event had been cancelled.

Blaming Storm Amy, the text said: "We're devastated to announce that DogFest at Blenheim Palace has been cancelled due to extreme winds from Storm Amy."
