Oxford actress Florence Pugh is rumoured to play an important part in the upcoming Marvel movie, Avengers: Doomsday.

Born in the city, she is known for her roles in 2019's Little Women, 2022's Don’t Worry Darling, 2023's Oppenheimer, and Dune: Part Two in 2024.

Ms Pugh also starred in Midsommar back in 2019, as well as last year's We Live in Time with Andrew Garfield.

She most recently starred in Marvel’s Thunderbolts, which was released earlier this year, and sees the British star play Yelena Belova, reprising her role from Black Widow and the Hawkeye series.

Rumours are now circling that her character will play a pivotal role in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie.

According to Daniel Richtman via ComicBookMovie.com, Yelena will not be an official member of Captain America's Avengers.

She will, however, "accompany them when they travel to another universe" in the comic book flick, according to the scooper.

The report adds: "It is interesting that Yelena is the one to join Wilson's faction of Earth's Mightiest Heroes for their alternate reality mission.

"We have heard that Pugh and Anthony Mackie were originally going to feature in more scenes together, but plans involving their characters ended up being changed fairly late in the game.

"If accurate, it's possible that Richtman's info comes from an earlier version of the script - which, as far as we know, still hasn't been completed."
