A family-run bakery has marked an 'incredible' milestone by celebrating 95 years of business.

Nash's Bakery in Bicester, a third generation business, is it celebrating the 'incredible' milestone.

The bakery has five shops, including one on Sheep Street, and runs 25 markets a week.

After more than 90 decades, the business is a staple of Bicester, and is believed to be the oldest one in the town.

The grandfather of Mark Nash, who is one of the directors of Nash's Bakery, started the business in 1930.

Mark's dad, who 'still comes in every day', then took it over with Mark's uncle in the early 1970s.

Mr Nash said reaching 95 years was 'as big as a surprise to us as it was anybody else'.

"We don't really think about it day-to-day," he said.

"It is an achievement, because I read somewhere that statistically, businesses that survive from first generation to second generation is quite small, but the amount of businesses percentage-wise that survive second to third generation is tiny.

"We're very proud of it and and very proud of our staff who work very hard.

"We're very grateful to our customers who, for over 95 years, have stayed loyal."

The team is made up of about 30 people, who Mark described as 'brilliant'.

"What people mostly don't understand about the baking industry is that it's an immediate business. We do the whole industrial process in 24 hours," he explained.

"So we start from scratch, because we don't carry any products over.

"Everything is made everyday fresh - delivered fresh, made fresh. If it's not sold at the end of the day, then it's thrown away.

"We carry over very very few products day-to-day. It's a bit like Ground Hog Day for us because we start afresh every day, whereas most industries aren't like that."

"We don't look or think about how long we've been running - we just get on and do what we do," he said.

"But it's been really pleasing to hear, now that we are a little bit more active on Facebook, etc, the comments that we get.

"It hopefully means we're doing something right.

"We're just going to get keep our heads down carry on doing what we do and hopefully provide lovely fresh food for all our customers, whether they're wholesale customers, retail customers, or the customers that come to our market."
