People in Oxford are, on average, waiting for more than five years for social housing.
This is according to new data from the unoccupied house insurance experts, Alan Boswell Group.
Its study found Oxford City Council has a waiting list of 3,443 people, with an average wait time of 5.2 years.
This is significantly higher than the national average of 2.9 years and gives the city the fifth longest waiting time in the UK.
The data also revealed more than 1.2 million people are on social housing waiting lists across the UK.
In 2022/23, only 252,000 households received a new social letting, leaving almost one in 10 waiting for more than five years.
Greater London has the longest waiting time, followed by Slough Borough Council, Aberdeen City Council, and Brighton and Hove City Council.
