Calls for a schoolchildren and adults to have safer walking and cycling route along the A415 have been heard by the county council.
The road connects Sutton Courteney, Abingdon, Appleford and Culham to Europa school and Culham Science Centre.
A petition calling for the change states that the lack of this crossing creates “an unacceptably high risk of injury and death for children travelling to school, and for adults travelling to work”.
It has received 872 signatures, both online and in person.

Aidan Reilly, president of the Culham Bike Users Group (CulBug) presented the petition to Oxfordshire County Council at the full council meeting on Tuesday, December 10.
Speaking to councillors, he said: “There is no crossing point at all between Abingdon and the science centre.”
“Clearly that is not an acceptable situation. It’s been like that for far too long.
“There was a serious accident there last year. A child was seriously injured.
“Every day’s delay is an extra day where it’s a lottery.
“There is more and more chance someone could be injured or worse.
“There’s no safe walking or cycling route. We have 20mph outside the cricket club and 30mph outside the school.
“I know there are plans for a crossing there. Please bring forward plan for the whole route."
He added that introducing more cycling routes would encourage more children to walk to school.
(Image: Aidan Reilly) Deputy leader of South Oxfordshire District Council Robin Bennett said: “There’s an amazing cycling culture at Europa School, but they are not given the right infrastructure for it.”
Council officers will respond to the petition within 10 working days.
