Dragon boat racing is returning to the River Thames in Abingdon.

A charity fundraiser will take place at Rye Farm Meadow on Sunday, September 8.

Dragon boat racing is a long-standing tradition in the town, and an inter-regimental competition was launched by the Royal Logistic Corps in 2017.

Last year's event had to be cancelled at the last minute due to bad weather.

Races will start at about 10.30am and will continue throughout the day, with the race finals and medal presentation ceremony taking place before 6pm.

Admission is free and car parking costs £5 for the day.

Each team's boat features 16 paddlers plus a drummer and each team should have at least 20 people so that different members can race throughout the day.

Teams can be mixed, or all male or all female.

Each team will have a minimum of three races and the fastest teams will compete in the elimination rounds.

All equipment is provided by the organisers, and each team will be given a full safety briefing and a short practice before the races start.

In the past the racing has been organised by the Rotary Club of Abingdon Vesper.
