An Oxford hotel has installed two electric vehicle (EV) chargers for its guests to use.

Hawkwell House Hotel, bought by Mercure in 2021, has unveiled the charging points in its car park in Iffley.

It said the chargers would be beneficial for visitors attending events or functions or for those who are staying overnight.

The installation comes in response to increased demand for EV charging in the hospitality sector and a significant gap in availability at city-based UK hotels.

There are also a record number of EV's on the road, according to research published last month.

It also comes following a multi-million refurbishment at the hotel, which has installed the chargers as part of its sustainability strategy.

The 77-bedroom hotel has pledged to work with businesses and suppliers to boost the area's economy.

As part of this, it partnered with Bicester-based charging point operator EZ-Charge to install the infrastructure.

Anuj Sagar, general manager at Hawkwell House, said: "It’s fantastic to launch our EV charging points for our guests to benefit from.

"It’s another great step forward in our continued delivery of improvements we are making to ensure our guests receive a first-class experience.

"The hotel sector is experiencing a strong demand for EV charging solutions and this is expected to increase in the coming years.

"We’re proud to be at the forefront of meeting demand via our investment in market leading EV charging infrastructure."
