Oxford recycles more of its waste than any other city in the UK, according to new research.

The study undertaken by Oceans, a sustainable toilet roll subscription service, shows 57 per cent of Oxford's annual waste is recycled.

Cheltenham and Gloucester were not far behind, both achieving 53 per cent recycling rates.

Exeter, Worthing, Crawley, and Telford were next on the list, each recycling 52 per cent of their annual waste.

A spokesperson for Oceans said: "This study highlights the cities that are making significant strides in waste recycling.

"Cities like Oxford and Cheltenham are setting a strong example, but there is always room for improvement across the UK.

"As the country continues to push towards greater environmental responsibility, the importance of robust recycling programmes cannot be overstated."
