Children were entertained with a range of events at a play and activity day in Bicester recently.

Taking place on July 29 at Gagle Brook Primary School, it included a climbing wall, go-karting, zorbing, face painting and arts and crafts.

The activities were designed to promote positive behaviours among children and young people, increase their physical activity and encourage healthy lifestyle choices.

Playday, a national day which takes place across the UK every year, offers an event with free entry and free activities.

The theme for this year's event was the culture of childhood and supporting play, fun and friendships.

Oxfordshire Play Association, which organised the event, laid out the aims and objectives for children, parents and communities at the event.

The goal was to promote healthy weight management for children and provide information on services and activities for them.

It also wanted to show to parents and carers how play and quality family time can be achieved on a minimal budget using natural and recycled materials.

For communities, it aimed to encourage a greater sense of belonging, promote clubs, groups and societies and involve groups, communities and children and young people in the planning and delivery of each event.

Oxfordshire Play Association says its aim is to "improve lives through play" and to "champion and support the rights of all children and young people to have access to, high quality, inclusive play opportunities".
