The biggest football tournament in Oxfordshire is nearly here with hundreds of teams taking part.

The Summertown Stars annual five-a-side tournament is set to take place at Cutteslowe Park on June 15 and 16 with football fun for all ages and abilities.

Boys and girls juniors from under sevens to under 18s will be competing with competitions for women and men too.

An over 50s walking football event and matches for those with a disability means everyone will have the chance to enjoy the day.

This year will mark 50 years of the club - with its football tournament now the biggest in Oxfordshire with 410 teams taking part.

Organiser Jim Ruddick said: "We expect approximately 5,000 people to attend over the weekend.

"The club has 837 players in 61 teams including one disability team, and girls and mixed teams, all volunteer led, for the community and the love of grassroots football.

"For the tournament, we expect 410 teams and 2500 plus players.

"It’s also our 50th anniversary and we’re really excited about that, and are looking forward to celebrating at our awards night and Party in the Park the following week."

The competition is held each year at the Stars' home ground in Summertown next to the refurbished pavilion, and features refreshments, home-made cakes and BBQ area with vegetarian options.

The milestone competition will be followed later this year, on September 14, by the club's 50th anniversary gala dinner at the Leonardo Royal Hotel.
