A man has died following a crash involving four cars outside near a football club on the edge of Abingdon

The incident occurred at around 3.30pm on Wednesday, May 22 when four cars crashed on the A415, close to Abingdon Town Football Club.

A silver VW Golf initially collided with a blue Ford C-Max, which then collided with a silver Ford Focus.

The silver VW Golf continued on and then collided with a black VW Polo.

An 85-year-old man who was a passenger in the silver Ford Focus suffered serious injuries in the crash.

Thames Valley Police confirmed that the man died on Tuesday after having been taken to hospital.

The driver of the silver Ford Focus, a 60-year-old man suffered minor injuries, and was treated at hospital, but has since been discharged.

A 40-year-old man who had been driving the VW Golf was also taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Headington with minor injuries.

The driver of the black VW Polo, a 67-year-old woman, suffered a fractured wrist and was taken to hospital, but has since been discharged.

The two occupants of the blue Ford C-Max, a 36-year-old woman and a 13-year-old girl, suffered minor injuries and did not need to be taken to hospital.

Thames Valley Police is appealing for information following the crash. 

Investigating officer, detective constable Darren Baker said: “My thoughts are with the family of the passenger of the silver Ford Focus, an eighty-five-year-old man, who sadly has died as a result of this collision.

“I am appealing to anyone who was travelling on the Abingdon to Culham Road at the time to contact me if they saw the incident or the vehicles involved.

“I would also ask anyone who was driving in the area with a dash camera to check their camera and contact me if they have recorded anything that might assist our investigation.

This news comes after two other crash-related deaths in Oxfordshire this week as police appeal for further details.

A 57-year-old man from Bicester died in a motorcycle crash on bank holiday Monday after an incident with a Mercedes Sprinter van.

This incident occurred at around 9.40am at the junction of Middleton Stoney Road and Empire Road.

Elsewhere the driver, a man in his 20s, of an Audi A3 died after the car came to rest on its roof on Gravel Hill in Henley.

This was following a collision that involved no other vehicles on Tuesday, May 21 at around 11.10pm.
