Derelict Wiltshire pub 'sold' after years of sitting empty

The former Royal Oak Inn, a prominent building on New Park Street in Devizes, was put on the market for a guide price of £340,000 in December last year.

Signage installed at the site by estate agent Allen & Harris, which listed the property, indicates that it has now been sold to a new owner.

The former Fullers pub closed its doors around 10 years ago before being briefly used as an antiques store.

In November 2020, planning permission was granted to allow the new owner David Webb, of Webb Construction in Oxfordshire, to convert the Grade II listed building into residential apartments.

But work on this conversion remains unfinished over three years later and the Trust for Devizes has previously raised concerns that the building had been allowed to “decay.”

Last year Wiltshire Council served a Section 330 enforcement notice seeking clarification on the ownership of the former pub in response to these concerns.

Officers had been monitoring the property for further developments.

Allen & Harris say planning permission for eight residential apartments at the site remains valid and much of the internal strip-out has been completed.

The estate agent was approached for more details on the sale.
