A Headington pub has been forced to close on the busiest night of the week after being hit by a water outage.

Matthew Meeson - one of the owners of The Mason’s Arms – said the business had been without running water throughout Friday with the only updates those on the Thames Water website.

Thames Water said there had been technical issues after planned upgrades to a water mains pipe in Headington and some postcodes were without water on Friday, April 26.

"As you can imagine, it’s the busiest night of the week,” Mr Meeson said.

"Friday nights are very busy, particularly 5-7pm."

With the next update on the outages expected at 6pm, Mr Meeson said the team had made the decision not to run tonight.

He said: “Like most, but not all of Headington,” the pub had been without water all day.

“Hopefully it will be sorted for all of Headington alike as soon as possible,” he said.

Mr Meeson and his brother Chris Meeson – who refer to their business as “your home from home” - kept their local fans updated by Facebook.

“Please let anyone know who was planning on visiting us tonight,” Chris said.

“Hopefully we will be back to normal tomorrow.”

Thames Water has warned customers it may take 24 hours for water to return.
