A planning application to build 151 homes at a site in Didcot has been submitted.

Charles Church Wessex, sister company to Persimmon Homes, is looking to begin the next phase of the Valley Park project.

The developers have applied to build the next set of houses, referred to as Phase 1Pa, on land situated west of the Great Western Park.

Under the new plans, all of the homes will be zero carbon-ready.

The properties will be fitted with air source heat pumps, solar panels, and electric vehicle charging points.

The proposed location is directly opposite the future site of Common Park, which will offer numerous sports facilities.

Alongside the construction of standard houses, the phase will include 49 one bed flats and two and three bedroom houses.

These units will be given to a housing association partner to help ease the pressure on the Vale of White Horse’s housing waiting list, which currently holds more than 2,000 people.

The public area will feature pedestrian and cycle paths, and the landscaping will provide safe connectivity through the site.

Additional natural elements will include the planting of native shrubs, hedges, and trees.

Each house will come equipped with parking facilities, including spaces for bicycles.

Provisions for biodiversity enhancements will be made in the form of hedgehog fences, bee bricks, bat boxes, and insect hotels throughout the development.

The Valley Park scheme, which first gained planning permission in 2022, will deliver up to 4,254 homes once it is complete.

There will be £50 million of investment in the project, which will create jobs both on-site and in the supply chain.

Persimmon Homes regional managing director, Julian Roper, said: "After securing detailed permission for our first phase last year, we have recently started construction at Valley Park, and I am delighted with the progress we have made in submitting our next application.

“Persimmon is investing several million pounds in delivering a new community at Valley Park, comprised of high-quality homes and public facilities that will help meet housing need in the area and create the sense of place everyone wants in the area they live.

"From housing association properties and active travel links to biological enhancements and green spaces, this phase – let alone the entire development itself – will deliver numerous benefits to residents, helping make Valley Park a destination for local families."

Work has already begun on the first phase of the development, building 172 homes.

The developers have also engaged with the community by attending a careers day at the Didcot Girls’ School.
