A group of gymnasts from Carterton have enjoyed success at their first Southern Region Championships.

Carterton Gymnastic Club's boy's squad appeared at the competition on April 7 at Portsmouth Gymnastics Club.

Despite competing against experienced athletes, the squad showed "exceptional skill, sportsmanship, and resilience", the club said.

In the under 10s category, Romos led the squad by winning the floor exercise and taking fifth overall.

Max finished close behind in sixth overall and third in the vault.

Meanwhile, Angus finished seventh overall and produced his best performance in the vault.

Avery, the youngest member of the team, competed in the under 8s category, finishing eighth overall, with his floor routine earning high praise.

Maximus took part in the under 9s category and achieved 11th place overall, with an impressive fourth in the vault.

In the under 12s category Sam finished 15th, with his floor routine noted as his strongest.

Lincoln competed in the under 14 FIG category, finishing ninth, with his vault routine highly praised.

The club said: "The success of our boys at this prestigious competition is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and the unwavering support of their coaches."

The club said they were "incredibly proud" of the team for showing "exemplary behaviour, earning them praise not only for their athletic achievements but also for their conduct".
