A debate discussing how to tackle river pollution in Oxfordshire is set to take place in Oxford next week.

Councillors from all main political parties have been invited to the ‘Oxfordshire Clean Rivers Debate’ scheduled for April 18 at Oxford Town Hall Assembly Room from 6pm-8.30pm.

They will be joined by James Wallace, River Action CEO, and experts to discuss potential action against Thames Water and how to deal with sewage pollution.

The event has been organised by Oxfordshire Clean Rivers Initiative, a coalition of environmental organisations.

Organiser Ned Wells said: "We need urgent action to stop sewage pollution in the Thames.

"Recent news about Thames Water’s finances and the illness of the Boat Race crew are different parts of the same problem."

A follow-up 'Rescue Our Rivers' rally has been scheduled for May 25.
