Police have asked nearby businesses for CCTV footage after a man allegedly fell into the River Thames in Oxford.

The incident occurred at around 1pm on Tuesday afternoon after reports that a man in his 60s fell into the waterway.

Emergency services including police, fire and rescue and paramedics all raced to Osney, near Botley Road.

Police have since announced that the man entered the water in East Street

DCI Nicola Underhill said: “Thames Valley Police is today continuing activity to locate a man who was seen to enter the water from East Street in Osney Mead on Tuesday at around 1.20pm.

Thames Valley Police is now asking businesses on and near East Street to help by sharing footage from Tuesday afternoon.

“All I know is that the police contacted us because we have a CCTV camera but I didn’t know anything about the circumstances or what happened,” said a worker at The Vishuddha Centre in East Street.

Other businesses in East Street have been contacted for comment by the Oxford Mail.
