Music and fireworks are expected at an event taking place at Blenheim Palace this summer.

The annual Battle Proms Picnic Concert is scheduled for Saturday, July 6.

This year's event will feature the New English Concert Orchestra for their 19th performance at the Woodstock palace. along with aerial and pyrotechnic displays.

Attendees will be serenaded with harmonies from the Battle Proms Belles and their live band in the afternoon, while the day will end with traditional ‘last night of the proms’ favourites, beneath a sky which will be filled with fireworks.

This year the orchestral programme includes modern pieces such as the Dam Busters March, the Downton Abbey Theme, and Gershwin’s Summertime, performed by soprano Denise Leigh.

There will also be classical favourites such as Elgar’s Nimrod and Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture.

Concert goers will also have the chance to enjoy a horseback ‘Cavalry through the Ages’ show as well as displays from the British Army’s Red Devils parachutists, and the Grace Spitfire.

This year marks 80 years since the Grace Spitfire shot down the first enemy aircraft on D-Day.

The event will end with 200 cannons and firework displays alongside the music.

Visitors are allowed to bring their own picnics and drinks into the auditorium.

Tickets can be bought from the Battle Proms website with bookings before the end of April coming with a discount.
