A football club will benefit from new equipment after receiving a donation of £1,480.

Milton United was awarded the sum by Redrow South West as part of its Community Fund initiative.

This initiative was established in 2023 to support community organisations by providing funds for specific purposes.

Groups and causes were encouraged to apply for a share of the £10,000 available.

Milton United is currently home to more than 100 footballers.

This includes the Milton Mini Kickers, which offers sessions to children as young as four.

Following a successful season last year, there has been an increase in adults, children and volunteers wanting to join the club.

The donation from Redrow is expected to go towards buying new kits as well as ensuring the field is well maintained.

Gareth Woodward, chairperson, of Milton United, said: "For Milton United FC to receive this donation through the Redrow Community Fund initiative is amazing.

“The development of youth football is highest on our agenda.

"This donation has already allowed us to purchase several new items, which have already been put to great use.

"We have even been able to purchase matchday shelters so that both the home and away players don’t have to stand out in the rain.

"Without support such as this, we’d struggle to achieve our goals and for that, we are extremely grateful to Redrow."

Sian Smith, sales director at Redrow South West, added: "We’re committed to building thriving communities within the local area and we are proud to support local clubs and charities so they can continue to do the wonderful work they do.

"Milton United FC are a fantastic group, scoring goals on the field, while nurturing young talent, and providing a sociable space for the players to stay active and make friends.

"We’re delighted to donate funds to help the team and be part of their journey this year."

Redrow is currently building at the Blaise Park development on Mitchell Way in Milton.

The development will soon offer three, four, and five-bedroom homes priced from £412,000.

Mr Woodward said: "As Blaise Park continues to grow around us, so does the interest in our club."

The site is well situated for family's as it has a new secondary school nearby while it is also close to a primary school.

The nearby market town of Abingdon offers shopping opportunities while Oxford city centre is 22 minutes away.
