A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life after a fire at a recreation ground.

Emergency services rushed to Carterton recreation ground after receiving reports of a fire at a portacabin yesterday (Saturday, March 30) at around 7.55pm.

An eyewitness had told the Oxford Mail police remains at the scene on Arkell Avenue and Lawton Avenue this morning (Sunday, March 31).

The teenage boy remains in custody as police continue to investigate.

A police spokesperson said: "Thames Valley Police was contacted by the fire service at around 7.55pm yesterday (March 30) reporting that a portacabin was on fire at Carterton Recreation Ground.

"A 16-year-old boy from Carterton has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and remains in custody.

"An investigation is ongoing."

The Oxford Mail has also approached Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue.
