A restaurant owned by film star Florence Pugh's dad has received a new food hygiene rating following an inspection.

Cafe CoCo in Cowley Road, run by Clinton Pugh, was visited by the city council's environmental health team on Friday, February 16.

The restaurant was given a four-out-of-five rating after the assessment meaning its food hygiene is deemed as 'good'.

The inspectors judged the restaurant with regard to hygienic food handling, cleanliness and the condition of facilities and management of food safety.

The council's environmental health team is in charge of inspecting and rating hospitality venues on a zero to five scale with zero being the lowest score and five the highest.

Mr Pugh, who also owns the restaurant Kazbar, was a leading critic of the county council’s traffic measures and attacked the lack of consultation on LTNs in a banner outside Café Coco last year.

He previously owned Cafe Tarifa which went on the market in 2020.

Mr Pugh previously told the Oxford Mail he was in the process of selling the lease and had received an offer of £100,000 before it was repossessed.

He blamed low-traffic neighbourhoods (LTNs) which he said had hit his finances hard.

The premises formally occupied by Cafe Tarifa has now reopened as Dosa Darlings, a South Indian dining restaurant.
