The Princess of Wales’ revelation she is undergoing treatment for cancer has sparked an outpouring of support and well wishes from across Oxfordshire.

In an emotional video message released on Friday, Kate Middleton spoke about the “huge shock” after tests identified cancer following her abdominal surgery.

Recording the video at Windsor, she spoke about the “incredibly tough couple of months” her family have experienced, with her voice cracking with emotion at times during the footage.

The King, diagnosed with cancer in February, is said to be “proud” of his “beloved” daughter-in-law for her “courage” in speaking about her treatment and has remained in close contact during the past few weeks.

Messages of support have also been shared from leaders in Oxfordshire as the county rallies behind the royal.

Anneliese Dodds, Labour MP for Oxford East, said: "My thoughts are with Her Royal Highness and her family during this difficult time.

"I want to wish her all the best for her treatment and hope she recovers speedily."

Layla Moran, Liberal Democrat MP for Oxford West and Abingdon, added: "I'm so sorry to hear the news of the Princess of Wales' cancer diagnosis.

"I can't imagine what she is going through.

"I doubt that there is a single family in this country that hasn't been impacted by cancer. It's a truly terrible disease.

"I wish her the best in her recovery.”

The form of cancer has not been disclosed but the future Queen began a course of “preventative chemotherapy” late in February, and is said to have a positive mindset for her recovery and is in good spirits, describing herself as “well and getting stronger every day”.

Imam Monawar Hussain, the High Sheriff of Oxfordshire and founder of The Oxford Foundation, said: "This is very sad news. I'm praying for the Princess of Wales' successful treatment and speedy return to good health.

"I am also thinking of the Prince of Wales and his young family at this difficult time. With much love and prayers."

Lubna Arshad, lord mayor of Oxford, added: "On behalf of the residents of Oxford, I extend our deepest love and support to Princess Kate of Wales as she begins her proactive chemotherapy journey.

"Your courage and strength are a beacon of inspiration for us all.

"We stand with you every step of the way, knowing that you possess the fortitude to overcome any challenge."

Susan Brown, leader of Oxford City Council, said: "I wish the Princess of Wales a speedy and successful recovery and hope that she and her family will be given the privacy they wish at this difficult time."

It is understood the video was released on the day the royal couple's three children began their Easter school holidays, to take advantage of the break to shield them from coverage of their mother’s health.

Rev Buckley, who is based at St Michael at the North Gate church in Cornmarket, said: "Our thoughts and prayers are very much with Kate and the Royal family.

“St Michael at the North Gate is the city church and will be open for anyone who might want to come in for a moment of reflection during this concerning time.”

Witney and West Oxfordshire MP Robert Courts said: "My thoughts are with the Princess of Wales and her family during this most difficult time.

"The Princess’ honesty and bravery in her deeply personal statement was incredibly moving.

"I know everyone in West Oxfordshire will join me in wishing the Princess a full and speedy recovery."

Liam Walker, deputy leader of the Conservative Group on West Oxfordshire District Council, said: “Over the past few weeks social media has been full of conspiracy theories and toxic comments about the Princess of Wales.

Her brave statement shines a light on something that impacts so many people across the country. I know with my own mother’s journey beating cancer the impact it has on a family.

"Some would do well to remember that she is a mother to three children and our thoughts are with the whole family as they go through this journey together.

"I wish her a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing her back on royal duties hopefully very soon.”
