A crash between two lorries closed a major Oxfordshire road earlier today.

The incident occurred at around 6am on Friday morning when two lorries were involved in a crash on the A34.

Emergency services raced to the scene and the road was closed southbound between the Chilton and East Ilsley interchanges.

Thames Valley Police at the time warned drivers to avoid the area until the issue was dealt with but maintained that the northbound carriageway remained open.

The force later confirmed that no one involved was seriously injured despite the damage dealt to both vehicles.

A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police said at the time: “We are currently on scene at a collision between two lorries on the A34 southbound carriageway between Chilton and East Ilsley.

“The road will be closed for some time whilst we wait for recovery so please seek an alternative route.

“Luckily no one is seriously injured.”

Bus services were delayed as a result of the crash with Thames Travel confirming that X34 services were unable to serve Newbury and would terminate at Chilton.

Other buses were terminating at Harwell Campus due to their inability to get to Newbury.

The road was then cleared shortly after 10am and the southbound carriageway reopened with no significant subsequent delays.

The Oxford Mail has contacted Thames Valley Police for further information regarding the lorry crash.
