A 28-year-old woman has been found dead at a city beauty spot after forensics and police cordoned off the park this morning.

Thames Valley Police confirmed at around 6pm today (March 21) it is investigating an unexplained death.

A 28-year-old woman was found deceased in Shotover Country Park in Headington at around 6.45am.

Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

Senior investigating officer, detective chief inspector Wojciech Spyt said: “Firstly, my condolences go to the woman’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.

“The park itself is closed to the public while we manage the scene, which is likely to remain in place for some time.

“I’d ask the public to please avoid the area while our enquiries are ongoing.

“There is no threat to the wider public but please speak to a uniformed officer if you are worried or concerned.

“I would ask anyone who was in the park last night or early this morning to please contact us.

Thames Valley Police has been contacted by the Oxford Mail for further details. 

A spokesman for the force refused to confirm or deny whether the incident is being treated as suspicious.
