A man in his 30s remains in critical condition after the car he was travelling in left the road and hit several trees before falling down an embankment.

The incident happened when a green Toyota RAV4 was travelling westbound along the B4507 away from Wantage between the villages of Westcot and Kingston Lisle, and it came off the road at around 9.25pm on Tuesday (March 19).

The car struck some trees nearby and fell down an embankment.

The driver, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital with minor injuries and has since been discharged.

A passenger, a man in his 30s, suffered serious injuries and was also taken to hospital, where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

Investigating officer PC Shaun Kipling of the Roads Policing Unit said: “I am appealing to anybody who witnessed this collision to please come forward.

“I’d also ask anybody who was travelling along the B4507 between 9pm and 9.30pm and may have seen the green Toyota RAV4 prior to the crash to please contact us.

“I would also ask drivers to check any dash-cam footage of their journey along this road and get in touch if it has captured anything that could assist this investigation.
