A man has been arrested following reports of a suspected stabbing in Oxford this week.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, March 13 as officers were called to the Central Oxford Mosque in Manzil Way after an incident in a nearby alleyway between 6.30pm and 7pm.

A man in his 40s was given first aid at the mosque before he was taken to hospital in an ambulance where he remains in a stable condition.

Thames Valley Police then opened an attempted murder investigation and the force has now arrested a suspect.

A 24-year-old man from Oxford has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody.

Superintendent Bruce Riddell, local policing area commander for Oxford, said: “Our investigation into this serious incident continues and we have now made an arrest.

“There will continue to be additional patrols but Manzil Way and the surrounding roads are now fully open and we would like to thank everyone for their continued support and cooperation in regards to this investigation.

“I would like to reassure the local community that we do not believe there is a threat to the wider public.
