Sir - Julie Webb wrote an excellent article about the Oxford University Museum of Natural History in this month's Oxfordshire Limited Edition, so I am sure she must be as disappointed as I was, to see that your main illustration showed the wrong museum In case any members of the public were confused by your article, the Museum of Natural History, with its splendid glass roof and neo-gothic architecture, and displays of animals, fossils, minerals and rocks, is open every day from 10am to 5pm, or you can take a virtual tour on our website, www.oum.ox.ac.uk.
The galleries of the Pitt Rivers Museum, shown in the main photograph, are closed at present for building work and will re-open in the spring of 2009, when major improvements are completed.
We'd have hoped our local newspaper would know the difference between the Pitt Rivers and the Oxford University Museum of Natural History (after well over 100 years of having the two different museums next door to each other), or that someone might have thought a picture of a musical instrument display might not be what you'd expect to find in a natural history museum! It was deeply disappointing to see the wrong museum illustrated, and really very confusing for the public.
