Tributes have been paid to a man found dead at an Abingdon park.

Thames Valley Police said Darren, whose surname was not given, was reported missing in Abingdon on Saturday after last being seen in the town at about 4.30pm.

Officers launched a search for him before confirming they had found a body, believed to be Darren, at Tilsley Park on Sunday morning, Mother's Day, March 10.

A police spokesperson said: “Sadly, the body of a man was located on Sunday morning.

“Although formal identification has not yet taken place, we believe this to be Darren.

“Darren’s next of kin have been made aware and are thoughts are with them at this extremely difficult time.

“The death is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

“We’d like to thank everyone who helped with our search and who shared our appeal.”

Tilsley Park is a sports complex surrounded by fields off Dunmore Road. The sports and athletics ground is popular for its all-weather pitches and athletics track.

People in the town have been paying tribute to Darren and leaving messages of support for his wife Samantha in an Oxford Mail book of condolence.

Olivia-Ann Stoter wrote: "Absolutely devastating news.

"Darren was an amazing guy! Had a heart of gold. I'm so sorry sending love and hugs to Samantha and all his family Rest Easy Darren."

Carole Clack posted: "My sincere condolences to you all.

"Darren and Samantha went above a beyond for me when I moved here.

"I'm so deeply sorry for you all and I will remember Darren with a sincere heart of gold."

Bex Jarvis wrote: "RIP Darren you were lovely and the best stepdad my nephew could wish for."

Hannah Harding added: "Darren you will be so missed by us all, my sister has lost her husband, your parents lost a son and your children their father. RIP Darren."

And Stacie wrote: " Still can't believe it, man with a heart of gold. RIP Darren much love to the family."

Family members have also left messages of support on Facebook.

Han Lou Tenk said: "RIP to my brother in law Darren - you were so loved and will be deeply missed."

And Debbie Maycock wrote: "In total shock. RIP Darren - such a lovely guy."
