A South Indian inspired restaurant in Oxford will donate half of the proceeds of every dosa it sells to a local women's charity to mark International Women's Day.

Dosa Darlings announced today, March 8, its plan to support local women on International Women's Day.

The restaurant will donate 50 per cent of every dosa ordered between now and March 17 to The Women's Project.

This charity, part of the Homeless Oxfordshire Movement, has noted a 40 per cent increase in women using its services.

The women who are supported often have complex needs, including child welfare, family and relationship breakdown, historic abuse and domestic violence.

Owner Michael Raphel said: "We’re really fortunate to be in a position that enables us to give back and help those in the community we are in.

"Dosa Darlings was created to challenge the notion of Indian cuisine being a masculine space, so it only feels fitting to extend that out on a day that internationally celebrates women."

He added: "Guests can enjoy chai and snacks in a cosy bar area throughout the day, before the lights are dimmed in the evening to create a dark and moody vibe where cocktails and Indian bar snacks are served.

"Enjoy some Dosa’s and celebrate International Women's Day with us."

Recently opened on Cowley Road, Dosa Darlings seeks to "disrupt the perception" of traditional Indian cuisine by providing South Indian inspired small plates and a cocktail list.

The establishment is part of the JM Socials group, which runs food establishments in Cheltenham such as Prithvi, Bhoomi Kitchen, Holee Cow, and Bao + BBQ.

It aims to "take guests on a flavourful adventure that seamlessly marries authentic Kerala cuisine with a contemporary twist".

The restaurant's menu offers an array of dishes, including traditional Indian dishes and Indian desserts such as Halwa and Kufi's.

The restaurant's speciality is the dosa, featuring flavour combinations such as masala, dates and almond, blue cheese and truffle, and chocolate and hazelnut.

The cocktail list includes the Bambo (Sherry Wine, Dry Vermouth, Orange Bitters), Paper Plane (Bourbon, Aperol, Amaro, Lemon) to the Keralan (Rum, Lime, Pataka Ginger, Mint, Champagne, Angostura Bitters).

Mr Raphel concluded: "We can’t wait to continue welcoming people from Oxford and beyond to enjoy great food and drinks with us.

"It’s been an exciting few months with the opening, and for all those who want to stay up to date with our forthcoming plans and offerings, you can follow us on Instagram @dosa_darlings and Facebook."
