An area of Oxford was left without water for 24 hours after a pipe burst.

Those living in Blackbird Leys started to notice issues with their water supply on Tuesday afternoon.

Some people were left with no water whereas others experienced a change in water pressure or temperature.

An anonymous householder living in Warburg Crescent said they had been left in the dark by Thames Water over the issue.

“We currently have no water. We haven't been notified by the council or Thames Water yet,” she said.

“They are trying to fix the problem as a drain has been overflowing since yesterday afternoon.

“The daughter of one of my neighbours got in the shower and nearly scolded herself.”

Thames Water has since confirmed the cause of the problem was a burst pipe which led to residents experiencing water issues for the day.

A spokeswoman for the company said: “We’re sorry to customers in Blackbird Leys who experience low pressure or no water in the last 24 hours.

“This was the result of a burst water mains pipe on Haldane Road.

“Our engineers attended on Wednesday, March 6 and carried out the repair on the same day, with water supply returning to our customers that afternoon.

“Should customers still be experiencing issues we’d encourage them to give our customer services team a call on 0800 316 9800.”
