A TEENAGE girl who was visiting from Norway is believed to have ‘jumped in front of a car’ outside Oxford Brookes University causing her death.

Iril Asting-Kjesbu, who is understood to have been in the city on holiday from Norway, was involved in a collision with a black Toyota Auris in London Road on Friday, February 23.

Emergency services were called at around 11.25pm and took the 18-year-old student to the John Radcliffe Hospital where she died two days later on February 25.

An inquest was opened into her death on Tuesday (March 5) at Oxford Coroner’s Court where it was heard she was walking with a friend along Headington Road when she ‘jumped in front of an oncoming car’.

A post-mortem examination was carried out and the cause of death was given as ‘massive traumatic haemorrhage’ and ‘multi-system trauma’.

Her mother was able to identify her to the nurses and doctors who were treating the student on February 25.

No arrests were made by Thames Valley Police as the force said at the time of the crash that it was not being treated as a hit-and-run.

The driver is understood to have stopped at the scene and is cooperating with the police investigation.

A full inquest into her death will take place at the same court on July 2 at 2pm.
