Detectives probing the stabbing of a man in Barton have not ruled out a connection with another stabbing in Oxford four days earlier.

Two men, aged 33 and 28, were found seriously injured with stab wounds following an altercation in College Lane in Littlemore on Sunday.

One of the men, 33-year-old Tobias Bruce, has since died in hospital.

And police are now investigating a further stabbing which took place in Barton on Thursday night in Edgecombe Road.

A man has sustained several stab wounds and was taken to hospital, where he remains in a serious condition at this time.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: "At present, we do not believe the incidents to be linked, although naturally, we are keeping an open mind with regards to this while our investigation continues."

He added: "The victim in yesterday's incident in Barton has sustained serious injuries, but they are not believed to be life-threatening. 

"We appreciate the concern that incidents such as this have in our communities, and the public will notice an continued police presence in Barton while our investigation is continuing. 

"We would urge anybody with any information, or who have any concerns, to please speak to one of our officers, or contact us via 101."

One man, aged 26 and from Barton, has been arrested on suspicion of section 18 wounding with intent and obstructing or resisting a constable in the execution of their duty in connection with the Edgecombe Road incident.

He remains in police custody.
