There are plans for a city pub to reopen under new owners next month.

The Oxford Blue, in Marston Street, East Oxford, has been taken on by a group of nine people operating under the name Greenbox, who have already begun renovation work on the property.

They say they hope to return the pub “to its former glory” with pub partner Brewpoint.

According to a promotional video on Kickstarter, renovation work has involved stripping back the walls and clearing up the dirt.

The new management team is working to offer “culinary experiences, sweet merch and private hires” and “aim to build a community hub with community events, brunches and Sunday roasts”.

They also intend to host community events, live-music, pub yoga, book clubs, quizzes and serve the sporting history of the venue.

The pub’s Kickstarter page has a £5,000 listed fundraising target, open to anyone who wishes to make donations towards the venue’s revival.

A sign currently displayed on the entrance door reads: “We’re revamping this wonderful pub and intend to launch a new hub for the community in March.”

The Oxford Blue has been vacant since June 2023. Last February, the property’s freehold, then currently let to brewers Wells and Co (Charles Wells Limited), was marketed by Savills for offers in excess of £1.2m.
