Trains to London Paddington could be cancelled for the rest of the day after a person was hit by a train.

Rail passengers are being warned that trains from Reading to London Paddington are being cancelled due to the incident this morning.

Great Western Railway has issued a statement on its website apologising for the disruption.

The cancellations are affecting passengers travelling from Oxford and Didcot Parkway to London Paddington.

Some passengers are now arriving at Waterloo instead of Paddington.

The train company said in its latest statement that the line has now reopened following the incident but passengers can still expect delays throughout the day.

Oxford Mail: Passengers at London PaddingtonThe statement adds: "Following the emergency services dealing with an incident between London Paddington and Reading the line has now reopened.

"Train services running to and from these stations will be cancelled or delayed by up to 100 minutes. Disruption is expected until the end of the day.

"We're very sorry that all trains are currently delayed until further notice between Reading and London Paddington due to a person being hit by a train.

"Thankfully the lines have just been reopened, but severe delays and cancellations will continue as the trains and crews are in the wrong places."

Passengers are also being told that Chiltern Railways are taking passengers via any reasonable route until further notice. Arrangements have been made for Great Western Railway rail tickets to be accepted for these journeys.

South Western Railway are taking passengers from London Waterloo via Staines and Reading in both directions until further notice. Arrangements have been made for Great Western Railway rail tickets to be accepted for these journeys.

The same ticketing arrangements have also been made with London Underground, Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry, and the Elizabeth Line.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to Hanwell railway station at around 10.40am today following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended. However sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
