Well-wishes have come from across Oxfordshire to King Charles who has been diagnosed with a form of cancer.

The county came together to wish the King a “speedy recovery” as Buckingham Palace announced he had started treatment at around 6pm today.

Members of the public joined MPs, councillors and religious leaders in tributes following the announcement.

The Bishop of Oxford said his prayers were with the King and his family, saying it “must be a worrying time for them all”.

The Rt Rev Dr Steven Croft said: “Our prayers and best wishes are with His Majesty as he undergoes treatment for cancer.

"We hope to see him back to full health soon, having made a swift recovery.

"Our prayers are also with Her Majesty the Queen and their wider family during what must be a worrying time for them all.”

Mayor of Oxford, Lubna Arshad, wished “on behalf of the city” for the King’s return to good health.

Addressing the monarch, she said: " I extend heartfelt best wishes to you for a speedy recovery.

"May the grace of God be upon you as you navigate through this challenging time.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with you, and we earnestly hope for your swift return to health and strength."

Oxford City Council leader Susan Brown added: "I wish him well with his treatment and a good recovery."

Layla Moran, MP for Oxford West and Abingdon, said: “I and the Liberal Democrats join the rest of the nation in wishing His Majesty a quick and full recovery.

"My thoughts are with the Royal Family.

“People across the country will be worried for his health, but it is good to hear that this has been diagnosed early. I am sure many will welcome his decision to be open about his diagnosis and assist public understanding.” 

Banbury MP and attorney general Victoria Prentis wished the King “a speedy recovery.”

Sean Woodcock, Labour’s prospective parliamentary candidate for the Banbury seat, echoed her sentiments.

People living across Oxfordshire added their voices to the tribute.

Well-wisher Anne Norburn said: "Get well soon”, while Sharon Pill added: "So sad. I hope he recovers quickly.”

A night porter at Christ Church College in Oxford said: "Personally I think the guy is great and I hope he gets better soon.

"He’s doing a fantastic job and long may he do so."

The King's latest official visit to Oxfordshire came in November when he waved off van drivers with the Queen at a charity in Didcot.

He and his wife visited staff and volunteers at the South Oxfordshire Food and Education Alliance (SOFEA) surplus food distribution centre.
