A riverside boozer will remain closed “until further notice” as it continues to bear the effects of widespread flooding last month.

The Boat House in Wallingford announced a temporary closure on Saturday, January 6.

This was after the River Thames began to cover and rise over the back steps of the pub, eventually entering the inside of the premises.

A spokesman for The Boat House said: “We have surveyed the damage to the pub following the flood and will remain closed until further notice.

“We’ll keep our customers updated once we have more information and would like to thank everyone who has sent through messages of support.”

The brewery said it had nothing further to add at this stage when asked questions about the extent of the flooding and what repair work was being conducted.

Staff at the pub had originally announced in a statement that the closure of the venue had been scheduled for a refurbishment "before April".

A number of boats in the town remain stranded on grass banks as a result of being moved from the flooding.

Many boats have been left perched at odd angles.

Upstream at Benson Weir, a vessel has been left resting against the river lock, while another is still submerged under water.
