A catering van may soon serve hot food in a library car park as an application has been lodged with a council.

Plans have been submitted to South Oxfordshire District Council in the hope that this new facility will "provide hot food to the residents of Berinsfield village".

A planning application form states the sale of food and drink would mostly be consumed on the premises.

The catering van would not be parked permanently in the car park under the proposals.

It would only be on site at specified times.

A planning paper lodged by the applicant, Hit The Spot, states the catering company intends to serve food to a local youth club.

The paper stated: "I consider that having a hot food van on Berinsfield will be an added benefit to the residents of Berinsfield.

"We have asked a lot of people in the area and they have all said it would be very welcome as another option to the fish and chip shop and also not to have to order hot food from off the village or to travel to pick it up.

"Also, we would like to support the local youth club and provide hot meals at discounted prices for the children that attend the youth club."

A worker at Berinsfield Library said they had not yet been consulted on the application and were not aware of the plans to provide hot food in the car park.

South Oxfordshire District Council pledged more than £550,000 in November last year to fund a new delivery plan designed to boost everything the village of Berinsfield has to offer.
