Four men from Oxfordshire have been arrested after scuffles are alleged to have broken out ahead of Oxford United's match with Reading in December. 

Thames Valley Police announced today that an additional 13 arrests have been made in relation to incidents of violent disorder in Reading on December 12.

The U's played their local rivals that evening with a heavy police presence in the town ahead of kick off.

The disorder is said to have occurred in Friar Street and Station Approach in Reading.

A total of 10 people were arrested on the night and remain under investigation.

And now, a 25-year-old man from Abingdon, a 34-year-old man from Wantage, a 47-year-old man from Witney and a 28-year-old man from Littlemore have all been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder. 

All remain in police custody. 

Police have issued reassurance to the public ahead of the return fixture at the Kassam Stadium in Oxford on Saturday.

Superintendent Adrian Hall, tactical commander for the return fixture in Oxford on Saturday, February 3, said: “The disruptive and aggressive behaviour exhibited by a minority of individuals prior to the Reading versus Oxford game in December was unacceptable and as a result, we have taken action to locate and identify those responsible.

“Thames Valley Police will have a visible policing operation in place for the Oxford versus Reading fixture on Saturday, February 3 to ensure that fans coming to enjoy the game, residents and the wider public feel safe when visiting Oxford.

"There will be football ‘spotters’ actively deployed to continue to identify and arrest those responsible for disorder in Reading on December 12.

"Officers will be out and about throughout the day and on hand to answer any questions or concerns you may have – please feel free to stop them for a chat.”

A 32-year-old man from Tilehurst, a 33-year-old man from Arborfield Green, and a 33-year-old man from Spencers Wood near Reading, have also been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and remain in custody.

Thames Valley Police confirmed this also applies to a 57-year-old man from Tilehurst, a 42-year-old man from Newbury, a 39-year-old man from Shinfield, and a 58-year-old man from Sherfield-on-Loddon in Hampshire. 

And a 42-year-old man from Emmer Green in the Reading area has also been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and remains in custody.
