Barclays has launched a new branchless banking service for customers in Didcot.

The new service, known as Barclays Local, aims to provide face-to-face customer support accessible for six days a week, offering a more flexible way for costumers to effectively get support for their banking needs.

Located at the Cornerstone Arts Centre, Barclays Local offers in-person assistance spanning digital banking, financial reviews, balance checks, transfers, and bill payments.

The service, however, is a cashless site, which means customers will need to complete everyday banking transactions at a Post Office.

David Johnston, MP for Wantage, visited the site last week to open the site.

He said: "I was delighted to officially cut the ribbon at the new Barclays Local which will provide local people across Didcot with important face-to-face financial support and education.

"Thank you to their hard-working staff for making it happen."

He acknowledged the significant efforts of the Barclays staff in making the Barclays Local service available for the local residents, thus providing them with vital face-to-face financial assistance and education.

Charlotte Lamb, Barclays customer care leader in Didcot, said: "We were delighted to welcome Mr Johnston to see first-hand the new Barclays Local service here in Didcot which offers a new more flexible way for our colleagues to support customers with their banking needs."

Barclays has launched more than 350 Barclays Locals nationwide.

These are found in community locations like town halls and community centres and are supported by Barclays’ mobile van fleet, extending their reach to more remote regions.

Cllr Maggie Filipova-Rivers, cabinet member for community wellbeing at South Oxfordshire District Council, said: "We're really pleased to be able to provide space at Cornerstone for a Barclays Local site.

"Cornerstone is at the heart of the community in Didcot and really accessible for anyone who needs this kind of in person support that Barclays will be giving."

Barclays say they are constantly adjusting and examining its branch footprint, reflecting customers' changing preferences towards banking.

The Barclays Local service allows the bank to work with local communities, offering various flexible and sustainable solutions that enable face-to-face banking and financial education for people needing in-person consultations or those unable to transition to digital banking.

Barclays Local services in Didcot are available from Monday to Saturday, between 10am and 12.30pm and 1pm and 4pm on weekdays, and 10am and 1pm on Saturdays.
