A number of Oxford towpaths have seen their surface "deteriorate" due to severe flooding on the River Thames in recent weeks.

Following the rise in the river levels, the towpaths became unusable but as water levels drop it has become clear some towpaths have been damaged.

The city council issued a warning about the towpaths, and said the towpath at Fiddlers Island and from Folly Bridge to Donnington has reopened.

Taking to social media, an Oxford City Council statement said: "If you're travelling on Fiddler's Island and from Folly Bridge to Donnington today, please be careful.

"The towpath at Fiddlers Island and from Folly Bridge to Donnington has reopened, but the towpath surfaces may have deteriorated due to recent flooding and river conditions."
