A dangerous driver who sped at over 115mph on the M40 near Bicester has been banned from getting behind the wheel for two years.

With police on his tail, Shivam Dhillon swerved between motorway traffic at high speed before crashing and getting arrested.

When he appeared in court, the 20-year-old from Wolverhampton pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and was given the temporary disqualification.

The arrest came after Dhillon failed to stop for Thames Valley Police officers on the M40 near Bicester on August 23.

Pursued by police, Dhillon drove above 115mph, swerving between traffic, before losing control and crashing at the Junction 8A slip road.

Attempting to flee on foot, Dhillon resisted officers and ran between traffic towards the motorway.

He was finally arrested close to the hard shoulder and was found in possession of cannabis.

As well as dangerous driving, Dhillon, of Curzon Street, also pleaded guilty to one count each of driving without insurance, resisting a constable in execution of duty, possession of a controlled class B drug and criminal damage.

On top of the ban, he was sentenced to 240 hours of unpaid work.

Investigating officer PC Harry Welch said: “This conviction demonstrates the seriousness of Dhillon’s driving, which fell far below that of a competent driver.

“It was clear to see the defendant was willing to take needless risks and in doing so put other road users at risk of serious harm.

“Hopefully this young driver learns their lesson and takes much more care in the future.”
