A Bloxham pub has brewed a unique ale, named Legacy, in celebration of the establishment being owned by the same family for 50 years.

The ale is a joint creation with eager locals and Simon Finch, the current proprietor, as well as Hook Norton Brewery.

Legacy's brewing marks 50 years since the Finch family took over on January 13, while it will also be ‘guest of honour’ at the Brewery’s Open Tap Tasting Evening on January 10.

In 1974, Chas Finch took over the running of the pub, relocating with his wife Betty and son Simon.

Beyond being a publican, Chas Finch was a British Institute of Innkeepers member, engaged in charitable work for the licensed trade.

He chaired the Licensed Victuallers National Homes in 1998 and was a founding trustee of the Licensed Trade Charity.

Following his father's death in 2008, Simon Finch has continued to operate The Elephant.

Keeping the venue as a community hub, he provides hospitality to locals and visitors.

James Clarke, managing director of Hook Norton said: "In an ever challenging environment it is testament to the family’s commitment and dedication to their trade and more importantly their customers to keep the pub over such a long period.

"We are honoured to help Simon brew their ale in this, our own 175th Anniversary Year, making it even more historic and special.

"We look forward to sampling a pint in the very near future."
