A new robot coding event is coming to Didcot Library this Friday (January 5).

The event, which will take place from 2pm to 3pm, will offer local children aged eight to 13 the opportunity to code robots, learn how to programme them to move in different ways and play robot-themed games.

The library is hosting the event for the first time with the help of Makerspace at Oxford Westgate Library – an initiative which provides an opportunity to explore new technology and learn new skills by participating in different activities.

The city library is loaning its equipment to Didcot Library to run the free drop in event.

Sue Andrew, manager at Didcot Library, said: “Two of our staff with great tech knowledge will be helping to run the event on Friday. It’s really niche.

“The robots are so cute and quirky. I’m sure the children will really enjoy getting to grips with them and learning how to programme them.

“The Westgate Library has run some of these events which have been really successful, so we wanted to bring it here. We run coding clubs too, so this is an extra arm to that.

“Should it go well, we can look at running the event more regularly, such as during the school holidays.

"Free events like these are really helpful to parents with more than one child too, as other activities elsewhere can often prove costly.”
