Frustrated householders on estates near Bicester Village claim their neighbourhoods were “turned into car parks” over the festive period.

A swelling of complaints came forth from homeowners living in Kings End, Kingsmere and Villiers Road on Boxing Day as shoppers began to park in residential streets.

It is understood that some roads were coned off to prevent an overflow of Bicester Village shoppers’ cars from cluttering nearby neighbourhoods, but according to local sources the cones were moved.

Jo Stratford, who lives in Kings End, said: “Something needs to be done. Every time there is busy shopping days at Bicester Village only certain roads are coned off.

“It needs to be all of Middleton Stoney Road. Our streets are tiny enough without having to deal with the number of cars that think it’s okay to park wherever they like.

“There is no regard for the fact that people who live around here may have visitors over for Christmas, just as long as they get as close to Bicester Village as they can. I have seen no parking controls as in previous years.”

Bicester Village has been contacted for comment.

Several people, infuriated by cars taking up spaces on residential streets, highlighted that shoppers could have used the town’s park and ride scheme.

Karen Musilova said: “I thought the park and ride was there for a reason…surely some of these shoppers could have left their cars at home.”
