Events venue Ridgeway Adventures has entered 2024 with a bang, becoming the first UK indoor centre to now offer regular sport whip cracking workshops as a new activity.

Whip cracking is the practice of handling and controlling a whip with the aim of producing a crack including target whipping, disarming and grip skills as seen in westerns such as Zorro and Indiana Jones.

Workshops at the centre in Aston Tirrold, near Didcot, will go over the basics of whip mechanics, beginners cracks, target whipping and challenges.

The centre recommends wearing long sleeves, enclosed trousers and fully enclosed shoes for safety.

Sessions are for those aged 16 and over.

Whilst whip cracking is designed to be fun, staff also recommend not participating if you have a low tolerance for pain as being “kissed” by a whip replicates a sensation like a stinging slap as with activities like paintball and archery tag.

Events manager at Ridgeway Adventures Harry Househam said: “We've always prided ourselves on offering something a bit different.

"We have one of only six laser mazes in the UK, so we've always tried to come up with unique activities to offer people.

“We recently celebrated our second birthday as a business and have since established ourselves as the ideal spot for great fun, whether it be for families, couples or friendship groups just catching up.”

Whip workshops will begin on Friday (January 5) and will run fortnightly, every Friday evening from 6pm to 8pm.
