A chef who was found dead by his care worker died as a result of multiple drug intake, an inquest has heard.

Andrew Cowley, 50, was found deceased on the floor of his flat on June 20 this year by his care worker who was undertaking a routine welfare check.

An inquest held at Oxford’s Coroner’s Court on December 14 heard that the chef, of Kings End in Bicester, had a history of ‘depression, drug and alcohol abuse and was known to Turning Point’.

Turning Point is a health and social care service provider which has support services for drug and alcohol-related issues, mental health, learning, and employment-related issues.

The inquest also heard that Mr Cowley, who was born in Isle of Man, suffered pain from osteoporosis, osteoarthritis and a fractured metatarsal.

He was prescribed a drug for pain relief.

His medical cause of death was provided to the inquest as ‘multi-drug toxicity’.

A post-mortem toxicology examination found the presence of multiple drugs.

Assistant coroner Judith Leach said there was no indication Mr Cowley's death was as a result of deliberate overdose.
