A Witney care home is aiming to combat loneliness this Christmas with a festive Friendship Café.

Care UK’s Millers Grange care home, located on Curbridge Road, is inviting older community members to join in on the festive spirit on December 19 from 2pm-3.30pm.

This comes after studies from Age UK highlighted that nearly 1.5 million older adults feel lonelier during the festive period than any other time of year.

As part of their Care to Share initiative, Care UK has organised more than 100 festive Friendship Cafés across the country to offer older community members a fun, safe space.

Attendees will be invited to participate in Christmas carol sing-alongs, film screenings, and other activities while enjoying mince pies and mulled wine.

Alison Parry, home manager at Millers Grange, said: "Our regular Friendship Café is always incredibly popular with members of the community - providing a wonderful opportunity to have a natter and make some friends and, this month, we're putting a festive spin on things.

“The Care to Share initiative gives us the chance to support older people in the community and our festive Friendship Cafe is wonderful opportunity to make some friends while enjoying a mince pie or a hot cocoa too.

"The team and residents here Millers Grange are looking forward to sharing their Christmas cheer as we open the doors for some festive fun."
