Get ready to kick off your festive celebrations this weekend.

Witney Christmas lights switch-on will take place on Friday, November 24,  in the Market Square.

The event begins at about 4.30pm with Christmas music performances from the stage by  Madley Brook School Choir, Wood Green Swing Band and West Oxfordshire Academy of Performing Arts.

Children can come and meet Santa and deliver their Christmas list when he arrives in his Grotto at about 5pm.

Entrance is free but donations will be collected for local children’s charities.

There will be fairground rides at the north end plus food and drink stalls and some Christmas goods traders selling gifts all along the high street.

At 6pm sharp the lights will be switched on with the Mayor of Witney, Councillor Owen Collins,  Robert Courts, MP, Rev Toby Wright, Rector of St Mary’s, Keith Crawford, President of Rotary Club of Witney, Claire Bhogal, Director of Abbott Diabetes Care and Wood Green Interact Joint Presidents Matilda and Emmeline on the stage.

Organised again by the Rotary Club of Witney, the popular family event is made possible by generous local businesses, including main sponsors Witney Town Council, Abbott Diabetes Care Ltd, Chris Hayter Transport Ltd and Sportif Suzuki.

Meanwhile, save the date for Witney Christmas Market.

Cotswold Markets will be bringing a little Christmas magic to Marriotts Walk shopping centre with mulled wine, tempting treats, unique crafts, textiles, and gifts from 10am to 6pm on Friday December 8 and Saturday December 9, and from 10am to 4pm on Sunday December 10.
