Ribbons have appeared outside an iconic Oxford landmark for each of the dead in Gaza.

Each ribbon is meant for one of the more than 11,000 now killed in the besieged city as a result of an Israeli bombing campaign.

Volunteers spent two hours on Thursday and more hours on Friday tying the ribbons which are in the colours of green, white and red for the Palestinian flag.

Organiser Nuha Hasan, who is in her second year at Oxford studying English Literature, said: "We aren't able to physically keep up with how many people are dying."

She added that volunteers aimed to tie 10,000 ribbons.

A sign had apparently also been put up only for it to be "covered by someone's bicycle five minutes later".

The gesture comes just over two weeks after missing posters calling for the safe return of Israeli citizens kidnapped by Hamas appeared on the Radcliffe Camera railings.
