Hundreds of people honoured the sacrifice of military and civilian servicemen and women in the First and Second World War, and other conflicts at Remembrance Sunday services throughout West Oxfordshire.

In Witney a service of remembrance was held at the War Memorial on Church Green and afterwards a civic service at St Mary’s Church.

The town's youth groups and cadets were joined by the Town Band, ministers and members of the congregation from St Mary’s Church at the war memorial.

A two-minute silence was observed at 11am followed by a two minutes silence before a bugler sounded the Last Post.

The names of the wreath layers were announced by pupils from Henry Box and Wood Green School.

They included the deputy lord lieutenant of Oxfordshire, town mayor Owen Collins, members of the Royal British Legion, the Royal Navy, the Royal Air Force, Thames Valley Police and representatives from Witney's twin town in Germany Unterhaching and in France Le Touquet.

Crowds gathered in the Market Square and watched civic leaders including deputy leader of West Oxfordshire District Council Duncan Enright and chair of the council Andrew Coles lay wreaths at the war memorial.

Witney MP Robert Courts laid a wreath on behalf of the Witney & West Oxfordshire constituency.

Earlier in the week he paid tribute to all those in West Oxfordshire who made the ultimate sacrifice by planting a cross at the Constituency Garden of Remembrance in Parliament.

In Woodstock, the mayor Nick Manby-Brown and the Duke of Marlborough led the Remembrance Parade through the town.

Members of the council were joined by guests Deputy Lieutenant Lady Helen Baker, past mayors and serving members of the forces and police force.

They were joined at Woodstock Memorial by Royal British Legion flag bearer Melanie Watkins, representatives from Woodstock Primary School and the Marlborough Church of England Secondary School, Rainbows, Brownies and Scouts.

In Carterton the civic procession left the Town Hall with Mace Bearer Alex Fleming at the head.

Many families and young people joined the well- attended service held at the war memorial.

Deputy Lieutenant Julian Sayer along with the mayor Kathy Godwin, station commander RAF Brize Norton, and deputy mayor Cllr Liz Wood were joined by representatives of Oxfordshire County Council, West Oxfordshire District Council and town councillors.

Mr Courts was represented by Cllr Kim Wood.

In Chipping Norton leader of West Oxfordshire District Council Andy Graham was among those who gathered for an Armistice Day Memorial Service at the War Memorial on Saturday before a town parade from Market Square to the Remembrance Sunday service at St Mary's Church.
